Arryhythmia is a condition which leads to irregular heart beats. At times your heart beat may be too low and at times it may be be very high. When the heart rate is lower than the normal then the cardiologist or heart specialist call it as Bradycardia and when it is higher than the normal then it is called tachycardia. Both may cause problem for the patient. However, pacemaker surgery is done for the patients who have lower than normal heart rate.

The heart's electrical system typically controls the heartbeat. Electrical signals, called impulses, move through the heart chambers. They tell the heart when to beat. Changes in heart signaling may happen if the heart muscle is damaged. Heart signaling problems also may be caused by changes in genes before birth or by using certain medicines. Pacemaker can be advised in two cases i.e. if you have irregular heart rate or if you are in congestive heart failure.

Pacemaker - Solution

For patients either having low heart rate or heart failure the best line of treatment is implantation of the pacemaker to manage the hear rate. In very simple language pacemaker can be seen as an alarm clock. Like an alarm clock rings to wake a sleeping person similarly a pacamaker wakes up your heart when it starts to slow down and corrects the heart rate. Alarm clock wakes up the person by making a sound whereas a pacemaker wakes up the heart by sending electrical signal to stimulate the heart muscle.

A pacemaker only works when it senses trouble with the heartbeat.
